Celebrity mom Ricki Lake and filmmaker Abby Epstein draw on their personal experiences in exploring The Business of Being Born.
This 85-minute-long documentary follows clients of NY midwife Cara Muhlhahn as they consider their birth choices. The film includes interviews with well-known advocates for physiological birth including: Dr. Michel Odent, an OB/GYN and author of The Caesarean; Susan Hodges, President of Citizens for Midwifery; and Dr. Robbie Davis-Floyd, PhD in Medical Anthropology and author of Birth as an American Rite of Passage.
The Business of Being Born debuted in April 2007 at the Tribeca (NY) Film Festival, receiving a standing ovation, and will have a very limited release in 11 large cities. Catch a Sneak Preview hosted by ICAN of Charleston!
There will be a panel discussion and Q&A session at the conclusion of the movie.

Early Bird Tickets - $8, ICAN Membership + FREE ticket - $30, Tickets at the door - $10. Seating is limited. These are will-call tickets. Please bring your ID to the event. Doors open at 2:00 and the movie will begin promptly at 2:30.
DIRECTIONS
Take I-26 to Cosgrove Ave toward the former naval base. Cross Rivers Ave and Spruill Ave heading onto the old base. Turn left at the SC Federal Credit Union (dead end). Go .2 mile and turn right onto McMillan. At the light, turn right onto Hobson. Travel .2 mile through a hard left curve and the building will be on the right. The brick building is painted brown with a green horizontal stripe.
